Attempts on her Life is perhaps the most famous and intriguing work by English playwright Martin Crimp, a member the 1990s new wave together with Sarah Kane. It is a radical work and a real challenge to tackle, made up as it is of 17 micro-plays based on the absence of characters and their multiple identities. Each plot has a different title with no subdivision into characters or indications of any kind. The start of each line is marked by a hyphen, and only the stage action and the formation of relationships determine which and how many actors perform the piece. The performance is faithful to the written text and to the lack of necessity of identifying the roles and characters or settings, which are merely hints to send the audience even further off track. Viewers may even lose themselves, if they so wish, in this labyrinth of linguistic misunderstandings and errors which is the reality with which Crimp presents us.
